The Process
We like to be involved early in a project. Experience and feedback tell us that this delivers the best value for our clients.
Typically, upon receiving the enquiry we discuss the requirements and provide an initial quotation and lead time. A site visit may be required at this stage. Hand sketches and 3D Cad drawings are produced and shared for approval in principle. Then we create the formal and final drawings for sign off. Samples are available upon request.
Once the design is approved, we move into manufacture. We then manage delivery and installation, preferably by the Winthill team.
Materials
As a specialist metalwork fabricator, we work with a range of metals, each one selected for performance, quality and suitability.
Our range includes, but is not limited to: mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, and weathering or weathered steel, more commonly referred to as Corten or Cor-Ten steel.
Material options are discussed and agreed with our clients prior to fabrication to ensure the right materials are selected for the job. We consider the properties, integrity and aesthetics alongside the desired look and feel.
Our materials are British-made, where possible and are sourced from a network of trusted UK suppliers. We operate on a local-first basis and proudly partner with SMEs across Worcestershire and the West Midlands.
Finishes
While some projects embrace the rustic patina of raw and weathered steel, others benefit from finishing.
These are just some of the finishes we offer:
- Powder coated finish in a RAL, BS or special colour is always popular; architects appreciate the array of colours, effects and textured finishes available. It is extremely durable and lasts many years, perfect for outdoor applications
- Waxed raw steel provides a luxurious and tactile coating. A mixture of beeswax and linseed is applied to the warm steel which then solidifies to a tough, clear and aesthetically-pleasing finish.
- By applying a coating of zinc to the steel galvanising offers protection and prevents rust. Matt galvanisation is particularly striking, it produces a sumptuous pewter-effect.
- We also offer anodised processing which protects the metal from corrosion and wear and tear.
