Heritage House is an unforgettable private events space at the heart of Daylesford Farm in the Cotswolds. Built from the ground upby award-winning builders Stonewood Builders, Heritage House takes inspiration from its setting within the market garden and the countryside beyond. It is designed to look like a series of agricultural buildings and is built from Cotswold stone and other local-sourced materials using sustainable building methods.
Heritage House offers three, dynamic event spaces – The Ox Barn, The Dovecote and The Greenhouse. To echo the agricultural barn aesthetic, preferred supplier, Winthill Engineering was asked to craft decorative fixtures from steel, including statement halo lighting and a fireplace canopy for The Dovecote.

Custom mild steel halo lighting
The Dovecote is built in the styles of a traditional high-ceilinged barn with exposed roof trusses and a timber-clad ceiling. Such a grand space requires a combination of atmospheric and focussed lighting.
Winthill chose to reference the utilitarian nature of agricultural barns in the lighting design, creating both pendant and wall lights.
Winthill crafted four bespoke LED pendant lights, measuring 1.2 metres diameter. These impactful fixtures are made from laser cut mild steel rolled and folded to create a halo shape with an inside trim. LED strip lights sit within the channel casting diffused light upwards.
The steel halo lights are perfect for the monochromatic interior. The RAL 9005 matt powder coated finish contrasts beautifully with the warmth of the timber and natural stone floor and feature walls. These statement lights are complemented by corner wall lights, also crafted from powder coated mild steel.

Imposing custom mild steel fireplace canopy
An open fireplace built from Cotswold stone with a solid oak mantel beam provides an engaging focal point inside The Dovecote. A fire basket sits on a raised hearthstone with log storage beneath. Above this, sits the open fireplace canopy from Winthill.
The canopy, which is sometimes referred to as an open fire hood, ensures smoke goes up the chimney and helps to reduce heat loss. It is made from single skin mild steel coated with a heat resistant paint. The seams are hand-rolled, welded and joined with rivets. A hidden steel bar encased in the bottom edge gives a sharp, crisp line and also gives the fireplace canopy rigidity.
To enhance efficiency and safety, Winthill made and installed a custom fire grate in the floor of the room near the hearth. This serves as an air vent and provides an adequate supply of fresh air to ensure a hotter, more efficient burn.
Making an entrance with bespoke metal armature
Winthill is a regular supplier to both Daylesford and Bamford, and so, when it came to the inaugural Cotswold Curated Craft Fair the Daylesford events team requested a statement structure for the entrance to Heritage House – into which natural materials could be woven and fixed.
Winthill designed a cube-shaped armature – an open steel framework measuring 5m long by 2.8 high, which was partially fabricated in the company’s workshop in Worcestershire, before being transported to Daylesford. Here, the bespoke steel structure was welded together in-situ, and wire mesh secured to the frame. Bracken from the Daylesford estate was then woven into the mesh by the events team, creating a natural, organic entrance for this inspirational event.
Since then, the framework has been used to dramatic effect for a Día de los Muertos celebration, and much more.
